UDF candidate triumph in Makhuwira South Ward in Chikwawa

Unofficial results in the Makhuwira south ward in Chikwawa East Constituency for Tuesday’s by- election indicates that Issac Sten of the United Democratic Front (UDF) has won the seat with 2,514 votes.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Henry Tambu came second in the race with 1,939 votes.

Malawi Congress Party’s Lenita Osteni came third with 1,647 votes, while independents Francisca Ntangulu- managed to get 916 votes and Mary Medson scooped 88 votes.

The total number of votes cast was 7, 040 against a total register of 20,779.

There were 116 null and void votes.

Official results for the by-elections are expected to be announced today by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC)
