Taxi driver arrested for robbing a passenger

A Sienta taxi driver is in police custody at Lumbadzi Police Station for allegedly robbing a cell phone and K40,000 cash from a passenger.

The driver, Alfred Kaluwa, 31, was arrested on Friday, February 19, 2021.

The complainant, Martin Aliyere, 45, told the police that on Thursday, February 18, 2021, he boarded a Sienta taxi at Kanengo depot which had four passengers on board going to Mponela.

Upon arrival at Lumbadzi Sana Shop stage, it is alleged that one of the passengers grabbed Aliyere and robbed him a cell phone and K40,000 cash. He was later pushed out of the vehicle and drove away.

When the matter was reported to the police, traffic police officers who were doing traffic checks and patrol, impounded the said vehicle and arrested the driver.

Kaluwa will appear before the court soon to answer a charge of robbery.

Kaluwa comes from Tikatiko village, Traditional Authority Chindi in Mzimba district.

Meanwhile, police in Lumbadzi continue advising the general public to avoid boarding suspicious and unknown vehicles especially black numbered taxis.
