Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda has demanded Public Appointments Committee (PAC) to provide a detailed report to Parliament on Monday on why the committee rejected the confirmation of Martha Chizuma as a new Director-General of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB).

Making a motion, Chimwendo says Parliament would like to consider the reasons for her rejection and also to enable the House to decide the way forward on the matter.

Chimwendo has since described the rating of candidate Chizuma by some members of PAC as questionable, describing Chizuma as well-educated and suitable for the ACB’s top post.

The motion was supported by Member of Parliament for Likoma who also questioned the rating.

The MP directly attacked one of the PAC Member Liliani Patel who arrived in the interview rate but she rated Chizuma as a failure.

Earlier the Opposition side had rejected the tabling of the motion and they rose on a division which they later withdrawn.

PAC rejected Chizuma as Director of ACB yesterday.

Meanwhile the Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has threatened to hold demonstration on May 18, 2021 over the matter.
