Govt Issues 94 Licenses To Companies, Individuals In Cultivation Of Indian Hemp

A total of 94 licenses have been issued to companies and individuals for the cultivation, processing, selling and distribution of medicinal and industrial hemp in the country.

Director General for the Cannabis Regulatory Authority Dr. Ketulo Salipira has confirmed about the development.

Salipira said that  at this moment government is yet to identify buyers of the cannabis as companies that have been certified will have to find own off-setters.

Amongst the licensees are Inve-Grow, Malawi Mangoes, Banana 2017 just to mention a few.

There have been concerns though that the high licensing are restricting a lot of small scale farmers what would have ventured into the sector that appears to have potential of replacing tobacco as Malawi’s major foreign exchange earner.

License fees for cultivation and selling of medicinal cannabis is pegged at K7.4 million and K1.4million for industrial hemp. Processing License for industrial hemp is pegged at K3. 7million as per the gazzetted regulations.
