Police in Mangochi have arrested 53-year-old Yassin Kamwendo for allegedly trafficking 13 children.
Mangochi Police spokesperson, Roderick Maida, says the suspect was arrested on Monday afternoon at Saitikadzuwa Village, Traditional Authority Mponda in the district.
Maida says the children, aged between 12 and 16, were intercepted in a Toyota Noah vehicle they were travelling in, which was going towards Makawa where they were to be engaged in fishing activities.
Police say the suspect is going to appear before court soon to answer charges of trafficking children.
Maida further said they have summoned parents of the 13 children to establish if they took part in the trafficking so that they can also be charged.
Kamwendo hails from Bwanali Village, Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi.
