COURT DISCHARGES TIMOTHEOS FOUNDATION FORMER EMPLOYEE’S HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND SEXUAL ABUSE CASE

Date:

The First Magistrate Court sitting at Limbe Township has discharged a case where a former employee at Timotheos Foundation in Nsanje District was answering human trafficking and sexual abuse charges.

Presiding over the case, First Grade Magistrate Tsoka Banda said it was unreasonable that the state took two years to commence prosecution of the matter; hence, the discharge.

Meanwhile, speaking following the ruling, State Lawyer Victor Jere has expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling, while insisting that the suspect was arrested in September last year and not two years ago as Banda puts it.

He has since promised to re-file the case on Monday, arguing that a discharge is not an acquittal.

The Dutch, Wim Akster says is happy that justice has prevailed.

Meanwhile, Eye of the Child Advocacy and Public Relations Officer, Memory Chisenga, says all child-centered organizations will continue to pursue the case.

Akster was arrested in April last year for allegedly molesting three girls and three boys.

The survivors are said to have been beneficiaries of scholarships and bursaries offered by the Timotheos Foundation where Akster was working as the Finance Director.
