Financially distressed due to COVID-19 pandemic, man kills wife, stabs daughter

A man in Kolkata allegedly killed his wife and stabbed his daughter at their residence on Saturday evening. Following the incident, the man called the police and informed them about the same. Reportedly, the man attacked his wife and daughter as he was in financial strain.

The accused has been identified as Arvind Bajaj. The police rushed to Bajaj’s house after he apprised them of the incident and took the victims to a hospital.

Reportedly, when the cops reached the accused’s house, they saw the mother-daughter duo lying in a pool of blood.

Daughter battling for life 

The accused’s wife, Priyanka Bajaj, was declared dead at the hospital while his daughter was admitted to the facility. She is fighting for her life.

‘Bajaj was under financial distress’

A senior official said that Bajaj had been working with his father-in-law, who owns a business of building materials. The official told Hindustan Times, “Ever since the pandemic hit and the lockdown were declared, the business was suffering. Bajaj was under financial distress. ”

At around 8.30 pm on Saturday, the accused called the police and confessed to stabbing his wife and daughter with a kitchen knife. The accused’s daughter is a student and was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

According to neighbours, the accused did not interact with them usually but his wife was on cordial terms with them. The accused was detained for interrogation after the incident came to light.
