An 11 year old girl, Yvonne Hara has died after the vehicle she was traveling in overturned yesterday at Samuel Mabaso Village along the Mzimba – Chakazi earth road in the district.
Mzimba Police Deputy Spokesperson John Nyirongo told Rainbow the driver whose particulars are not yet known was driving an Isuzu truck registration number DZ 4232 from Mzimba Boma heading towards Chakazi Bridge and had more than 26 passengers on board, all Roman Catholic Church members.
Police say the accident occured when the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle ahead of him upon which he lost control of the lorry which overturned.
The girl was rushed to Mzimba District Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Eight other people have been admitted to the hospital after sustaining varying degrees of injury. Some have been treated as outpatients.
The deceased hailed from Kaundi village in the area of Traditional Authority Chindi in the district.
