“Brace for More Blackouts” – Energy Minister Matola

Malawians should brace for more blackouts as the country will for the next six months operate at 50% power generation capacity.

Making an announcement during today’s government face press meeting, Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola says that the blackouts will be rotational at least six hours a day.

He says this follows the impact of tropical cyclone Ana which damaged the Kapichira power plant.
He further says that the country lost 130 megawatts and it will need at least 18 billion kwacha to reconstruct the damaged dam.Further to this, Matola says that the country will also need to replace Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) power transmission equipments which were installed as far as 1964.
