The government of Malawi through the Department of Water Resources has warned of impending heavy floods from April 4 to April 10, 2022 in five districts namely; Nkhotakota, Salima, Nkhata-Bay, Rumphi and Karonga.

The development follows heavy rains experienced in the past days which will lead into high water levels in some rivers in the said districts from 8 to 10 April 2022 resulting to heavy floods.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Water and Sanitation Joseph Magwira has since asked people in the said district to relocate to upland areas.

Magwira has since warned people to desist from crossing flooded rivers.
