Police assures of maximum-security during Easter holiday

Malawi Police Service (MPS) has assured the public of highest degree of security during Easter period to ensure that people’s lives and property are secured.

Easter period is one of the important events on the Christian Calendar which is characterized by processions and church services in remembrance of the tribulations as we commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This year, the festivities will start from Good Friday, April 15, to April 18, 2022 on Easter Monday.

In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Wednesday in Blantyre, Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Malawi Police Service, Harry Namwaza said the Police have engaged in an extra gear in conducting patrols in all suspected places of criminal activities.

“We are ready to provide maximum security during the Easter period. Both civilian and uniformed police officers will be on the ground to ensure that people are well provided with security,” he said.

Namwaza added that the Traffic Police Department has increased police check points to monitor the fitness of vehicles plying the country’s roads to reduce accidents which commonly occur during the Easter holiday.

“To those travelling on the road during this period, we are advising them to follow all road traffic regulations, they should not over speed and they shouldn’t drive whilst drunk. Traffic Police officers will be on the ground to ensure that all those who contravene road traffic regulations should face the law,” the PRO added.

Namwaza appealed to the public to remain vigilant and call the nearest Police once they notice anything suspicious.

“We need to be security conscious. Those going to different places of worship and retreats should leave one or two people behind to safeguard their premises. The people left home should be able to make sound decisions if faced with anything suspicious,” he pointed out.
