Woman arrested for killing her newly born baby in Thyolo


An 18 year old woman is in police custody in Thyolo for allegedly killing her new born baby in Nathereza Village, Traditional Authority Chimaliro in Thyolo District.

The woman has been identified as Gloria Manyungwa.

Chairperson for Nathereza Community Policing Forum Rajab Benias Phiri confirmed of the development in an interview with the press on Tuesday.

According to Phiri, the body of the baby was found in a pit.

Phiri said some communities were surprised that the woman who had about eight months pregnancy was looking different, until a certain elderly woman found the baby hidden in a pit inside the groundnuts field.

The suspect will appear in court soon to answer murder charges.
