2 Jailed 5 Years For Robbery In Kawale

Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court has ordered two men to a 5 year jail term for robbery.

The two, identified as Kennedy Makuwa, 37 and Henod Buluku 33.

State Prosecutor Sub Inspector Brenda Namanja Livasoni told the court that the duo, on May 7, 2022 hired a motorbike of Patrick Issac at upper Biwi enroute to dumping site in area 24 where they robbed him cellphone and money amounting to K18,000 but failed to rob him the motorbike.

The victim did not report the matter to police but after some weeks the same approached the victim at winners chapel with the same trick, posing as customers .

The victim reckonised them and he put them on hold as he sort police intervention at Kawale who arrested him.

During the search they were found with pepper spray, a knife and ropes.

Appearing in court the two pleaded guilty and asked the court for leniency citing age bound and being first offenders.

However, the State pleaded for harsh penalty arguing that the case was well organised and that such cases are at an increasing rate.

In his sentence, Magistrate Tionge Muwalo slapped the two with a 5 year jail term as a deterrent to other would be offenders .

Makuwa comes from Senzani Village Traditional Authority (T/A) Phambala and Buluku is from Damison Village T/A Makwangwala both in Ntcheu District.
