Mulanje Police Public Relations Officer Gresham Ngwira has confirmed the arrest of 74-year-old man identified as Watson Kasanjinga, for allegedly defiling an 8-year-old Standard 3 girl.

Ngwira said this happened on Sunday, when the mother of the victim left her for the market to buy relish.

He said medical examination revealed some bruises on the girl’s private parts.

Kasanjinga will appear  before court soon.
