Minister Nyalonje caught pant down on forex (Watch video)

Minister Education Science and Technology Agnes Nyalonje has come under heavy criticisms on social media over her embarrassing comment on the dwindling forex reserves under the Tonse Alliance government of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

Recently there has been an outcry among Malawians over President Chakwera’s continuous International travel, saying the trips are draining forex in the country.

Reacting to the claim during government face the press, Nyolonje who was flanked by Minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo and Minister of Information and Digitalization Gospel Kazako, trashed the accusations.

In her explanation, Nyalonje said government Ministers uses electronic cards when travelling abroad and even the costs for the trip are sorted out electronically.

“You do not carry cash which means you do not externalize United States dollars. So that way you do not take out forex from government’s reserves.

“When I travel I only use the card, when I withdraw money, it comes out of the Kwacha account without me carrying any US dollar note,” said NyaLonje.

But the explanation has attracted a backlash among social media users with some calling for her firing.

“The whole Minister of education Nyalonje making embarrassing comments on the issue of forex. The Minister does not know that any transaction done outside the national money platform ndiye kuti mwadya forex. In short she does not like carrying hard cash forex but the ones in the card.

“If someone has been given fuel using cards and someone given using cash, it does not make any difference madam Minister,” wrote one of the concerned Malawians.

On his part Jack MacBrams wrote: “I always thought she was one of the Smartest in President Chakwera’s inept Cabinet, but the ignorance displayed here by Malawi’s Minister of Education Agnes Nyalonje is purely criminal.”
