DoDMA bails out victims affected by strong winds in Salima

Salima District Council, under the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA), on Sunday donated relief items to over 55 households who were affected by strong winds and rainfall in the area of Traditional Authorities (TAs) Maganga and Pemba.

The response comes a week after it was established that 55 households were affected by stormy rains which fell between 14-16 November.

Speaking during the donation, in the area of TA Pemba, Public Relations Officer for Salima District Council, Fostina Mkandawire commended DoDMA for the swift response, saying it will go a long way in easing pressure on the families.

She said the Council will continue working hand in hand with different stakeholders to ensure that those affected by the stormy rains continue to receive relief items for an improvement in the quality of their lives.

Speaking on behalf of the affected families, Sarah Galezi described the donation as timely as they had nothing in store for food.

The relief items were distributed to 55 households with each beneficiary getting a bag of 50 kilogrammes of maize, plastic sheets, four plastic cups, plates and spoons.
