Retired Chief Justice Edward Twea is chairing the commission of inquiry instituted by President Lazarus Chakwera to investigate circumstances that led to the arrest of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General Martha Chizuma.
President Chakwera sworn the members of the commission which comprises 12 people on Saturday at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
This comes as, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 89 (1) (g) of the Constitution of Malawi, the president appointed a commission of inquiry to investigate the issue.
The commission is expected to finalize its work and submit a written report to the president within 14 working days from the day of its swearing in.
On Tuesday last week, police arrest Chizuma around 4 am in connection with a leaked audio clip in what experts and other stakeholders described as a demeaning manner.
After a public uproar, Chizuma was released on police bail after being charged. However President Chakwera ordered for her released and had the charges dropped unconditionally.
Speaking during the commemoration of International Anti-Corruption Day in Kasungu on Friday, Chizuma warned top Tonse politicians that she will not spare them if they engage themselves in corruption activities.
Weeks ago, Chizuma arrested the country’s vice president Saulos Chilima and charged him with 9 accounts on corruption.
