Malawian woman stabs her husband to death after catching him with his alleged lover

Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody a 36 year old woman Maria Chimimba Phiri for allegedly stabbing her husband to death and seriously wounding her husband’s alleged mistress.

Lilongwe Police Hastings Chigalu confirmed the development adding that the incident took place at Chigwirizano on December 8, 2022.

According to reports, Phiri was married to a 42 year old man Thom Mtuwa and together they had a seven months old baby girl, but they had been on separation for some weeks.

Chigalu added that Phiri caught up with rumours that her husband is seeing some 21 year old lady and that’s where he spends his time.

When she arrived at Chigwirizano, she found the two chatting in the house and took no action then, but went to the market to buy two knives.

“She returned to the house at around 18:00 hours, and jumped on her husband’s lover and stabbed her on the abdomen before turning to her man, stabbing him several times on the abdomen and on the ribs,” Chigalu says.

After stabbing them, she jumped back into her vehicle and drove off, but police intercepted and arrested her.

The victims were rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital where Mtuwa died while the other victim is still receiving treatment.

Chimimba, who hails from Chiwere Village, T/A Wimbe in Kasungu, will be taken to court to answer murder and unlawful wounding charges.
