Police confirms arrest of people suspected of defaming Prophet Shepherd Bushiri

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has confirmed of the arrest of two people suspected of defaming Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) through facebook posts.

The two have been identified as Aubrey Alfonso, 23 of Chinyama Village, Traditional Authority Mabuka in Mulanje and Leonard Lungu, 22 of Mazengera Village, Traditional Authority Mponela in Dowa.

“On Saturday, October 10, 2022 Police arrested two young men in Blantyre for defamation who have been using their facebook accounts bearing fake names to falsely attack and defame Prophet Shepherd Bushiri,” reads in part the statement.

The two are currently on police bail.

Bushiri’s Publication Relations Officer Ephraim Nyondo has also confimed of the development in a separate statement.

Nyondo has since warned Malawians to desist from spreading fake stories against Prophet Bushiri, saying if found they will face the law.
