Red Cross faces budget short fall on Cholera fight

The Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) has revealed that it has the shortage of k2.1 billion on the k3 billion which the society budgeted to help government in fighting against cholera outbreak from November last year.

MRCS said this during the donation of non-bio medical supplies for cholera intervention at Mangochi District Hospital on January 2, 2023.

According to MRCS President Innocent Majiya, Red Cross has only K900 million currently and it is using to implement different activities in nine districts where they are engaging in various cholera response initiatives.

Director of Preventive Health Services for Mangochi Kondwani Mamba said cholera cases in Mangochi have started to decrease due to community based case management initiatives which they are using.

Mamba continued that the district yesterday recorded 34 new cases which he said is about 50 percent lower than what it registered 10 days ago.
