Govt announces re-opening of schools in Blantyre, Lilongwe

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and Cholera led by Minister of Health Khumbize Kandondo Chiponda has re-opened schools in the capital Lilongwe and Blantyre.

The task forced delayed re-opening schools in the two cities due to a sharp rise in Cholera cases with over 700 deaths.

Speaking during media briefing in Lilongwe, Minister of Health franked by Minister of Information Gospel Kazako said the schools in the two cities will re-open on January 17, 2023.

“Taskforce itakumana dzana mkuunikila momwe zinthu zilili ku Lilongwe ndi Blantyre, taona kuti sabata yamawa pa 17 January, sukulu m’maboma awiliwa zitsekulidwe,” said Chiponda.

Chiponda said over the past two weeks, the task force has been monitoring the situation in terms of availability of water in schools, availability of hand washing facilities and clean toilets.
