Police in Blantyre have arrested 28-year-old Davie Mtendere on suspicion of breaking into a police officer’s house, stealing a gun, and using it to commit another crime.
According to police publicist, Jonathan Filipo, Mtendere broke into a house at Chileka police lines in January and stole a Webly revolver Mark II, six rounds of ammunition, and various household items.
The suspect, along with an accomplice, is accused of shooting and killing 48-year-old motorcycle taxi operator Dickson John Harry in a failed robbery attempt in Thyolo, near O.G Issah farm, along Thunga-Chipendo road.
Mtendere was arrested in Miseufolo in Phalombe and the stolen gun, along with three live ammunition, was found buried in a maize field in Bangwe Township in Blantyre.
