Homeland Security Minister announces removal of unnecessary roadblocks

Minister of Homeland Security, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, has revealed that his ministry is planning to remove some roadblocks in Malawi. According to the minister, some police officers have been using these roadblocks as an opportunity to collect money from motorists and other road users for their personal benefit.

The announcement came during a parliamentary session when Ng’oma was responding to questions from Ntcheu West legislator who raised concerns about the high number of traffic police officers found on the road from Blantyre to Lilongwe.

The minister acknowledged the issue and stated that his ministry is addressing the problem by closing unnecessary roadblocks and introducing an automated revenue collection system at the remaining ones.

This move is expected to help combat corruption among police officers who are allegedly involved in such practices.
