A 16 year old boy, Ibrahim Jumbe, from Kalinga village in Mangochi, has committed suicide by hanging himself in his bedroom following a quarrel with his grandmother.
According to Mangochi Police Station Public Relations Officer, Amina Tepani Daudi, the incident occurred on the evening of July 4, 2023.
Daudi said Jumbe had engaged in a heated argument with his grandmother after he was admonished for insulting his stepsister by stating that her father was poor.
Despite his grandmother’s instructions to retract the statement, Jumbe refused and threatened to leave the house.
He then packed his belongings and left them in the sitting room corner before his grandmother and sister departed for errands.
Upon their return they found Jumbe hanging unconscious from the bedroom roof.
He was rushed to Makanjira Health Centre where he was pronounced dead upon arrival due to strangulation.
Jumbe hailed from the area of Traditional Authority Makanjira in the district.
