Police at Jenda in Mzimba have arrested a 27-year-old barber for allegedly stealing 14 cellphones from his barbershop clients.
It is established that the suspect was employed on August 1, 2023 as a barber and, three days later, he received 14 cellphones for charging.
Public Relations Officer for Jenda Police Station Macfarlane Mseteka has identified the suspect as Mackson who was working for Emanuel Shaba.
Kwenda is reported to have asked his boss  to buy him some chips during lunch time, as he took advantage of Shaba’s absence to walk away with the 14 cellphones valued at K1.6 million.
The matter was reported both at Jenda Police station Jenda roadblock. Acting on the information Jenda police through the roadblock apprehended the suspect and all 14 cellphones were immediately recovered from him.
Kwenda has since been charged with theft by servant, which is contrary to section 286 of the penal code, and he is set to appear before court soon.
Mackson Kwenda is 27 years old hails from Kapola village, Traditional Authority Kaomba in Kasungu district.
