Zodwa Wabantu banned in Lesotho

Zodwa Wabantu’s ‘exotic’ ways of performing have seen her entry into South Africa’s neighbouring country, Lesotho, denied for the second time.

“Her dancing half naked would be a crime,” a letter by Lesotho’s minister of local government, chieftainship, home affairs and police, Lebona Lephema stated.

The formal restriction and refusal letter stated that the controversial artist “will be denied entry” into Lesotho.

Lephema said the sangoma “is known to perform without wearing anything decent in public, the conduct which amounts to public indecency”.

It is unclear when Zodwa was meant to perform in Lesotho. However, it is not the first time the mountainous country had a problem with the performer.

In December 2017, Lesotho members of Parliament opposed to her performing at an event in Maseru.
