Govt Commends Progress OF Rumphi TTC Project

Minister of Education, Hon Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima M.P, says Rumphi Teachers Training College (TTC) will improve the education sector through increasing the number of well trained and skilled teachers in the country.

Wirima made these sentiments at the Rumphi TTC on Thursday during a ground-truthing exercise she carried out in the district.

“The college will enrol 600 students at once, this will allow more teachers graduating with diplomas and degrees as we intend to introduce these levels of certification here, at Rumphi TTC,” said the minister.

“I am very convinced and impressed with the progress here that almost 95 percent is done. The remaining assignments are not really to do with engineering but rather landscaping processes, and once this is done we are good to go,” she said.

The Minister was accompanied by the Secretary for Education Madam Chikondano Mussa, senior officials from the ministry and traditional leaders.

The classic and modern college was built with 12.6 million USD and sits on a 21 hectare land. It has 20 hostels with male and female student-teachers having an equal share.

Government has constructed three more TTCs in Rumphi, Mchinji, and Chikwawa.

As the college prepares for its first cohort of 600 student-teachers, government through councils has already started employing teachers to fill existing vacancies in different schools across the country.

Mangochi District Council is amongst those that have already recruited in this financial year while Dowa, Ntcheu, Salima and many others are waiting for interview results.
