Good governance commentator who is also a veteran rights activist Undule Mwakasungula has described President Lazarus Chakwera’s trip to United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) as crucial to present Malawi’s case to the international community.
Mwakasungula’s statement comes as critics are of the view that the Malawi leader should have attended the meeting virtually to save the much needed forex.
However, Mwakasungula says Chakwera needs to be physically present at the meeting among others ask for assistance that will help to rebuild the country after the devastating Cyclone Freddy.
He therefore stressed the need for the general populace and civil society organizations to refrain from always looking at short term solutions over challenges.
Meanwhile Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu has disclosed that President Chakwera directed that almost 80% of those who got the invitation to attend the summit should be dropped from the list adding that only 4 out of 12 ministers will travel to UNGA.
