The Balaka Second Grade Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 46-year-old Angolan national, Luis Miguel Semedo da Vaida to pay a fine of K600,000 or in default serve a 15-month jail term for causing injuries by reckless riding.
According to Balaka Police publicist, Gladson M’bumpha, The court heard that on September 19, 2023 the convict was riding a BMW GS motorcycle registration number LD4625GT heading towards Liwonde.
He said: “Upon reaching Mpilisi EPA, he hit a male pedal cyclist, Milliward Sifa aged 66, cycling the same direction who sustained a fracture on his right leg.”
Second grade magistrate Peter Nkuzi who presided over the case ordered him to pay the fine or in default, serve the custodial sentence.
