Court orders UTM leader in Kasungu to pay 5 million for personal injury

The court in Kasungu has ordered one of the youth leaders of the United Transformation Movement party (UTM) in the central region, Alick Saini to pay K5 million as a fine for biting and cutting off the nose of Chisomo Kefa, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) youth leader.

Saini committed the crime on September 1 this year after a dispute with Kefa over civil matters.

In his judgement, Magistrate Jones Masula, said Saini must pay K4.5 million as compensation to the plaintiffs and K550,000 to the court and if he fails to do so, he will be jailed for five years.

Magistrate Jones Masula, said that he imposed this punishment because the actions of Saini caused permanent disability to Kefa.
