An 18 year old girl is reported dead while a 15 year old boy is battling for his life at Machinga District Hospital after being hit by a lorry loaded with maize near Chingale Turn-off in Machinga.
Machinga Police Station publicist, Western Kansire has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
Kansire has identified the deceased as as Emma Sato from Traditional Authority Nsanama in Balaka while the boy has been identified as Innocent Laston from (T/A) Nkula in Machinga and was rushed to hospital together with the driver of the lorry.
The lorry was scheduled to deliver the maize at Machinga District Council to assist people who were affected by Cyclone Freddy.
