MCP Candidate Willard Gwengwe wins Dedza Central by-elections

Unofficial results from the Thursday by-elections indicates that Malawi Congress Party (MCP) candidate Willard Gwengwe has emerged victorious in Dedza Central Constituency.

Gwengwe has outclassed Independent candidate Jacob Kaumphawi with 7,913 votes against 7,361.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Andrew Kowedza has come third with 403 votes.

The constituency had 47,723 registered voters but those that actually voted were 15,899.

There were 221 void votes.

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is scheduled to announce official results this afternoon.
