National Water Resources Authority (NWRA) has extended commencement of nationwide closure of illegal water supply systems with a one-month period slated to December 24, 2023.
In a press statement released today and signed by Public Relations Officer Masozi Kasambala, the extension of the period comes in the wake of calls from individuals and institutions that are yet to exhaust the regularization and legalization process but then has advised all individuals and institutions with illegal water supply systems to declare their water abstraction points to the Authority in the stipulated period.
“the Authority has received an overwhelming response since the issuance of the first Press Release on the matter on 21st July,2023”, reads part of the statement.
The Authority has revealed that a total of 800 out of 1,300 representing 61.5% of the targeted boreholes have been declared before putting its position that all illegal water abstraction points that shall not have been legalized by the Authority by 24th December, will be shut down.
The Authority has furthermore called the general public to assist the Authority as it puts in place systems to enable sustainable management of water resources in the country.
