Amid a campaign against poaching in Majete Game Reserve, police in Mwanza have recovered three muzzle guns and apprehended 21 trappers.
Mwanza police public relations officer, Hope Kasakula, attributes this success to the support from the community and rural policing interventions.
Kasakula mentions that under the ‘Bwezani Zida campaign’ launched several months ago, the police engaged with communities and urged poachers to voluntarily surrender their weapons.
The police have since warned the poachers that if they fail to cooperate by the March 31, 2024, deadline, they will take further action.
