US Embassy fires warning shots as DPP, MCP supporters are set to crash in Lilongwe

The US Embassy has warned its employees to desist from taking a route that passes within Lilongwe City Centre as youth arms of the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) are set to hold different activities within the area.

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) youths are this morning conducting a cleaning exercise at the Mausoleum while Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporters are also scheduled to hold a blue parade from Parliament building.

The move has attracted the presence of heavy armed police officers around Parliament building.

In a statement released by the Embassy, employees have been warned to stay away from the said area as violence may erupt.
