Mulhako wa alhomwe has launches an initiative of reinstating structure destroyed cyclone Freddy last year

The Mulakho wa Alhomwe cultural group has launched an initaitive aimed aty re-stalling all materials destroyed by cyclone freddy in the Lomwe belt.

Cyclone Freddy destroyed mulhakho cultural sites, food and medical plants in Mulanje District headquarters of Chonde.

Elizabeth Gomani Chindevu Principal Secretary for National Unity in the Ministry of Local Government,Unity and Culture on Friday during the launch hailed the cultural group for sourcing funds for the cause.

Chindevu said mobilizing resources for rebuilding is good news and something that other cultural establishments can emulate.

The impact of Cyclone Freddy on cultural groupings was huge because they lost people and infrastructure.

John Lundu Phiri Mulhako wa Alhomwe Project Coordinator said they were pleased that the place will now regain its stature.

Namurukunuwa is a construction of tradition huts. So on the second phase they will construct three Namurukunuwas and other heritage structures.

Phiri concluded that these structures are not only tangible heritage but also a representation of they artistic part. The project is not about Lhomwes but people across the country because it is about safeguarding and preserving they culture.

Mulhako wa Alhomwe was established in 2007 by former president Bingu wa Mutharika and holds an annual cultural event at the headquarters
