The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has shut down the Sana store in Limbe, Blantyre, following health and safety violations.
MBS officials stated that during their inspection, they discovered multiple violations. Among the issues were expired items found in refrigerators, including bread that lacked production and expiration dates. They also found chickens that appeared to be old and expired, as well as improperly opened packaging.
Additionally, the MBS found evidence of rodents in some areas where food was stored.
As a result, the store has been fined K1.5 million and will need to address the violations before it can be reopened.
