Liwonde Police Station arrest two suspects in possession of specimen of listed species raw ivory on 19 January, 2025.
Liwonde Police Station Public Relations Officer Sergent Ngwashape Nsume comfirm the arrest.
At about 1400 hours, the officers received a tip-off about two individuals attempting to sell raw ivory at St. Mary’s Catholic ground in Ntaja.
Acting swiftly on this information, a team from Liwonde Police, accompanied by officials from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife, promptly responded to the situation.
Upon arrival, the suspects were found with a plastic bag containing two pieces of raw ivory.
The team tactically approached, arrested the suspects, and seized the ivory. The individuals, identified as Twaibu Mandota, 55, from Mpamba, T/A Chiwalo, District Machinga, and Mustafa Osman, 38, from Kapoloma, T/A Kapoloma, District Machinga, are now in police custody pending for court.
