Information reaching this publication reveals that the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has closed the Area 12 and Area 49 Panda Superstores this morning due to poor hygiene and the stocking of rotten items. This action is part of a nationwide surprise market surveillance being conducted by the MBS.
Speaking in Lilongwe after inspecting the stores, MBS Communications Officer Wazamazama Katatu stated that selling expired or defective commodities violates Section 39 of the Malawi Bureau of Standards Act.
Yesterday, MBS closed several SANA shops across the country over different reasons ranging from hygiene, stocking of rotten items and others.
