The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has yesterday on 20th January 2025 closed three Sana Cash ‘n’ Carry stores  in all three major cities of Malawi due to selling expired goods and poor hygiene.

In Blantyre, the Sana store in Limbe has been closed after MBS found rotten eggs causing a bad smell, sour milk about to burst, spoiled fruits, and dirty toilets used by workers.

In Lilongwe, the Sana store at Area 47 was shut down for having unhygienic conditions, including dirty toilets and a broken waste tank which was leaking at the moment.

In Mzuzu, the Katoto Sana Super Store was also shut down for selling expired goods and failing to maintain cleanliness.

Speaking about the closures, MBS spokesperson Wazamazama Katatu said inspections would continue across the country, and stores that fail to meet standards would be closed.

Sana Cash ‘n’ Carry is a trusted retailer in Malawi that sells food and non-food items. However, these closures highlight the store’s negligence in ensuring the safety of its workers and customers, raising concerns over the quality and standards of its operations.
