Police at Ndirande in Blantyre, have arrested a 22-year-old man, for allegedly possessing a firearm without a license and using it to threaten bar owners.
Ndirande Police spokesperson Maxwell Jailos,has confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as Paul Dominic.
According to Jailosi, Dominic visited Nyozani Bar at Safarao market in Ndirande. After consuming alcohol, Dominic was asked to settle his bill, but instead, he pulled out a firearm and threatened the owners, demanding more alcohol and warning that he would shoot if they refused.
Startled by the situation, the bar attendants raised an alarm, prompting patrons to intervene. Dominic was subdued and apprehended, while an accomplice managed to escape.
Police arrived at the scene and confiscated the firearm. Dominic is currently in police custody and is expected to face charges related to illegal possession of a firearm and issuing threats.
Authorities have since launched a manhunt for the suspect’s accomplice and urged the public to report any suspicious activities involving firearms.
Dominic hails from Safarao Village, under Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre.
