Police in Chitipi in Lilongwe district have arrested seven people for allegedly stealing irrigation equipment from a farm worth 70 million Kwacha.
Lilongwe police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu said, the owner of the farm (Kwa Njewa) has been robbed by these people from August last year to January this year, but these people are not known and caught.
This led to the investigation of the police, which led to the arrest of these people. After catching them, they allegedly directed the police to the place where they have been selling the goods.
Mr. Chigalu said the people are George Watson aged 25, Dikilani Chokazinga 29, Richard Lyton 40, Positani Gediyasi 32, Samuel Banda 27, and Chibwaleya Banda 30.
Some of the goods that these people stole include, two large generators, three water pumps, six solar panels, a water tank, sky and other goods. Police have recovered one of the items.
