An 18 year old fisherman has drowned in Liwawadzi River in Balaka district where he went for fishing together with his friends.

Shema Lameck, met his fate yesterday, Tuesday at Chikuse village in Sub- Traditional Authority Matola.

Balaka Police Spokesman Inspector Gladson M’bumpha said while fishing, Lameck’s hook stuck in the water and he jumped into the water to take it.

“His friends called for help and villagers who were in the maize fields came and retrieved him from the river but he was already dead,” said M’bumpha.

This is the third drowning in Balaka since the onset of this rainy season.
