Lilongwe Teacher Found Dead Amid Health Struggles and Marital Issues

A teacher at Milonde Primary School in Lilongwe District has been found dead, hanging from the ceiling of his house.
According to Lilongwe Police Spokesperson Hastings Chigalu, the teacher, John Mwalilino, who began teaching in 2011, was posted to Milonde School in 2015. Mr. Chigalu said the teacher had been suffering from a sleeping sickness for a long time. Upon noticing his condition, the Ministry of Education issued him a transfer letter to a school near his home in Karonga District.
While plans were underway to relocate him in the coming days, the teacher was found dead yesterday. Mr. Chigalu noted that this tragic incident occurred four days after Mr. Mwalilino had reportedly expelled his wife from their home.
Police and medical examiners determined that the teacher died of asphyxiation due to self-inflicted injuries.
