Osinachi’s husband sentenced to death by hanging for murder

NIGERIA – A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, husband of late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, to death by hanging for her murder.
Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme delivered the verdict on Monday, finding Nwachukwu guilty of culpable homicide. Osinachi, who died on April 8, 2022, was initially believed to have passed from throat cancer, but later reports pointed to domestic abuse.
Nwachukwu was tried on 23 counts, including spousal abuse, child cruelty, and criminal intimidation. The court also sentenced him to various prison terms on multiple other counts and imposed fines.
The ruling follows a high-profile trial that brought national attention to issues of domestic violence in Nigeria.
