Road Accident on M1 Claims 8 Lives Near Mponela

Atleast 8 people have lost their lives following the accident which has occurred along M1 road near Nkhamanga village senior chief Mponera in Dowa district during the night of 7 May 2025.
The district healthy officer of Dowa district hospital Dr. Peter Makoza, confirmed about the accident saying that the minibus was carrying 16 passengers and it was going to Kasungu and it collides with a stationary vehicle that was transporting bales of tobacco.
He said that four people who have been seriously injured have been referred to Kamuzu central hospital for treatment and other two are receiving treatment at Dowa district hospital while the remaining two children a 12 year old and 1 year baby did not sustain any injury from the accident.
Dr. Makoza said that according to the report it shows that the minibus was over speeding the time the accident happened. The injured patients were firstly taken to Mponera hospital before being referred to the other hospitals.
