At least 19 security guards stationed at the late Professor Bingu wa Mutharika’s Ndata Farm in Thyolo have gone nearly two years without receiving their salaries, raising serious concerns over their welfare and labor rights.
One of the affected guards, Davie Zabron, said they continue to work without pay at key locations within the estate — including the Casablanca Manor, Bingu’s mausoleum, and an administrative office — despite repeated follow-ups.
Zabron revealed that the guards initially sought help from Bineth Trust, their former employer, but their efforts have not yielded any results. He added that multiple attempts to contact Tapiwa Mutharika, daughter of the late president and a former resident of the farm, have also been unsuccessful.
When approached for comment, Samuel Kayuni, a senior official within Bineth Trust, directed inquiries to Tapiwa Mutharika, identifying her as the chairperson of the trust. However, she has declined to respond to the matter.
The guards say they are growing increasingly desperate and are calling on relevant authorities to intervene.
