
Man Arrested for Beating Alleged Vegetable Thief to Death

Police in Mulanje have arrested 27-year-old Daniel Sikelo in connection with the death of Pius Ligomeka, 26, from Gojo Village under Traditional Authority Nthiramanja.
According to Mulanje Police spokesperson Innocent Moses, Sikelo was apprehended on Thursday, May 8, at Chinakanaka Market following a police investigation.
Moses explained that Sikelo had been cultivating vegetables in a garden belonging to Ligomeka. Recently, he noticed that some of his crops were being stolen by unknown individuals. As a result, Sikelo decided to guard the garden during the night.
During one of his night patrols, Sikelo reportedly caught Ligomeka in the act of stealing okra (locally known as therere) and proceeded to beat him with a stick.
Ligomeka later died due to the severity of the injuries sustained.
Sikelo has allegedly confessed to the act and is expected to appear in court soon to face murder charges.
The suspect hails from Kundwero Village under Traditional Authority Nkanda in Mulanje District.
