Two more people, village headman Ng’onga and a villager Martin Simbota have been arrested in Balaka over fraud related offense.
The first to be arrested was Group Village Headwoman Mchenga on the same matter.
Sources said the three have been arrested on allegations that they received compensation from Portland Cement Limited on the land at Ng’onga where the company is constructing a cement making factory yet they do not own any piece of land there.
Balaka Police Spokesman Gladson M’bumpha has confirmed the arrest of the three but he quickly mentioned that they have been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) not police. “The three are here for safe keeping,” said M’bumpha.
But ACB Principal Public Relations Officer Egrita Ndala has on two separate occasions told us that the bureau has no any information on the said arrests.
