President Chakwera Confers Senior Counsel Title on 12 Legal Practitioners

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has conferred the honorary title of Senior Counsel (SC) on 12 distinguished legal practitioners in Malawi, following recommendations from the Malawi Law Society’s Honours Committee.
Among the recipients are key figures in the country’s legal and governance systems, including Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo, Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda, Ralph Mhone, Pempho Likongwe, Emily Makuta, Innocentia Ottober, Maziko Phiri, James Masumbu, and Marshall Chilenga.
Also honoured were Kamudoni Nyasulu and Marshal Chilenga, both recognized for their outstanding contributions to the legal field.
Two of the awards were conferred posthumously, in recognition of the late Garton Kainja and Alex Nampota, whose legacies continue to influence Malawi’s legal landscape.
The conferment took place on Tuesday and reflects the President’s acknowledgment of the recipients’ dedication, integrity, and service to justice in Malawi.
